Japan calls on Ferrari designer's services for luxurious train project

The Train Suite Shiki-shima, to be launched in May, has been designed by Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama who has also worked on Ferrari, Porsche and Maserati car models.

The East Japan Railway Company has entrusted Ferrari designer, Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama, to conceive its Train Suite Shiki-shima’s appearance.

Two-storey suites complying with traditional Japanese architecture, as they feature washi paper, wood paneling and kokatsu seating areas, are to compose the luxurious ten-car.

The Train Suite Shiki-shima also includes a shared dining room car and two observatory cars, at the front and the back, surrounded of glass walls that showcase the landscape.

The train is to run through Nikko, Hakodate, Aomori and Tsubame areas.

Multi-day seasonal trips in the spring or autumn are proposed with applications currently taken for trips departing from December 2017 until the end of March 2018.

Suite prices start from $4,500 for double-occupancy, to $6,750 for single occupancy.
