Akiem acquires mgw Service

Akiem, a specialist in locomotive rental in Europe, announces the acquisition of the German group mgw Service, which specializes in the maintenance of electric and diesel locomotives.

Mgw Service carries out maintenance and overhaul of locomotives on behalf of freight and passenger rail operators. The group of 70 employees based in Cassel (Land Hesse, Germany) is mainly present in Germany since its workshop in Krefeld (Land of North Rhine-Westphalia), Sweden (Hallsberg - Örebro County ), but also in Switzerland, Italy and Poland. Mgw has the skills, tools and logistics of spare parts for a wide range of electric and diesel locomotives and in 2016 generated close to € 20 million in sales.

This acquisition took place as Akiem accelerated its development in Europe and invested massively in new fleets of locomotives able to travel from Germany to Central Europe, the North Sea, Sweden and Italy. Akiem will thus strengthen its rental offer with maintenance included. Mgw Service will continue to operate with the current managerial team always under the brand mgw Service. The additional businesses of rental and maintenance will thus allow Akiem and its subsidiary mgw Service to develop the extent of their networks, nature and performance of services with European operators.
