Senegal: Eiffage puts the TER of Dakar on track

Eiffage has just launched the works of lot 1 (infrastructure) of the TER (Regional Express Transport) of Dakar which aims to link the center of Dakar to the future international airport Blaise-Diagne (AIBD) in 45 min. It will serve no less than 14 suburban stations including two new stations: Diamniadio and AIBD.

The contract, awarded by the Government of Senegal and supervised by the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Major Works (Apix), is carried out in a consortium by Eiffage (45%) through its subsidiaries Eiffage Génie Civil, Eiffage Rail and Eiffage Senegal, with the collaboration of Turkish companies Yapi Merkezi and Senegalese company CSE (Compagnie Sahélienne d’Entreprise) for € 373.5 million.

The yard involves in the design-construction of 55 km of a fast electrified (160 km / h), in 2-ways, and in UIC standard railway line with shifting and renewal of the existing metric gauge. The work will be carried out in spite of a maintained railway traffic (passengers and freight) and the level crossings are replaced by 35 bridges (overpasses, railway bridges), existing secondary feeder roads and 46 bridges for Pedestrians.

The construction work is divided into two sections, respectively, 37 km between Dakar and Diamniadio, and 18 km between Diamniadio and the AIBD, will run for 41 months
