United Kingdom : What are the railway stations of the future ?

The British rail industry looked at what could be the railway stations for the foreseeable future. A series of image was unveiled by “Rail Delivery Group” to illustrate the further research.

The visual from BPR Architects, shows how rail travel becomes more and more central issue in the daily lives of users and how the station becomes a living place (shops, playgrounds, cafes and so on…). They contribute to give the vision of Rail Delivery Group (representing railway undertaking in the United Kingdom and Network Rail) of around 2500 British stations in the coming years.

Basically, the projects focus to erase a divide between railway and environment (WIFI, catering ...), creating the public spaces around the station (playgrounds), making more fluid circulation of information (new signs, buildings more airy...), promoting modular wharf and optimizing accessibility (one level with no steps) ..

The British government, aware that the stations are the main key to reach the rail industry and more, taking part in the growth of the economy, has launched in this sense, a plan of more than 50 Billion pounds to upgrade and modernize some 2500 stations in the United Kingdom.
