Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars explained: “The automotive industry is facing a fundamental transformation and we see ourselves as the driving force behind this change. The battery factory in Kamenz is an important component in the implementation of our electric offensive. By 2022, we will have more than ten purely electric passenger cars in series. We also continue to drive forward the hybridization of our fleet. Under the EQ brand, we are creating a holistic ecosystem for e-mobility.”
Along with traction batteries, ACCUMOTIVE will produce batteries for Mercedes-Benz energy storage units and 48-volt-systems.
The new ACCUMOTIVE’s factory could have created by the end of the decade over 1,000 employments being two times more than the today number.
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, also declared: “This is a significant investment in the future of electrically powered vehicles. A high-performance battery is of decisive importance for the further development of e-mobility.”
The new factory is worth €500M and is planned to be operational in mid-2018.
