Proactiva Medio Ambiente Mexico S.A., a subsidiary of Veolia, a French transnational company in water and waste management, has won the tender to build the first Waste to Energy facility in Mexico.
The contract amounted nearly € 886 millions, includes the design, the building and the operation of the facility enables to treat 1.6 million metric tons of household waste a year, with 30 year operation and maintenance.

This is the first experience of the company Veolia to operate in Latin America, and as Mexico City with its 10 million of inhabitants, generate 13,000 metric tons of waste per day, the new facility will provide the treatment and will convert about one-third of the city’s household waste into green energy. Besides, the 965,000 MWh of electricity produced each year by the plant will be used directly by the Mexico City Subway Metro.
