Paris, London and Seoul united to create an international vehicle rating system

Drivers will be able to make an informed choice at the dealer in terms of pollutant emissions.

So far, regulations regarding vehicles’ levels of pollution were quite unclear. A situation that suited well to car manufacturers. The result is that buyers had no idea of the health and environmental impact of their vehicles.

But things are changing as three capitals − Paris, London and Seoul − have announced on March, 29, 2017 the introduction of an international rating system aimed at preserving environment. Madrid, Mexico, Milan, Oslo and Tokyo already showed their interest in rallying the initiative.

Practically, a score will be assigned to each vehicle’s model. It will depend on the pollution level emitted in real traffic conditions, which will have to be determined. To this effect, mobile sensors will be installed in the French capital in the coming weeks. Results will be available online as of the end of 2017 for London and Paris.

The whole initiative is backed by C40, an organization that fights global warming.
