Volvo Penta supplies power generation engines to China

Shanghai Cooltech, Chinese OEM has ordered the power generation engines range from five to 16 liters from Volvo Penta for its generator set (genset) market.

The power generation engine Volvo Penta’s TWD 1653GE produces high power density with low fuel consumption, and it is designed for easy installation with low noise and vibration. The power engine can produce up to 716 kVA at 1500 rpm and the fuel injection and charging system ensure low internal losses.

The TWD 1653GE aims to build gensets which are loaded on the trucks and when electricity demand reach its highest point, the trucks are then used as mobile units to provide emergency power. Two Chinese companies purchase these engines State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) and China Southern Power Grid (CSPG).

State Grid the Chinese government-backed and the largest electricity utility company in the world, provides power not only to more than 1.1 billion people (88% of China) but also distributes power at its foreign assets, while the second government owned electricity supplier, CSPG, the company distributes power across five southern provinces of Guangdon, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan.

Since 16 years, Volvo Penta has been supplying engines to Shanghai Cooltech, and a rise of the number of units supplied year-on-year is enabling the Swedish-based manufacturer to increase its footprint in Asia.
