The engines are part of the new MTU 1000 to 1500 series, which meets the Stage V emissions standards that will come into effect from 2019. Claas will equip its Lexion and Tucano combines, its Jaguar forage harvesters and its famous tractor 4x4 high-power Xerion (pictured). The architecture of the 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 MTU engines is based on that of the Daimler OM93x and OM47x engines. They cover a range of power ranging from 100 to 480 kW. This supply agreement is expected to involve between 4,000 and 5,000 engines per year delivered to Claas by the subsidiary of the Rolls Royce Group from 2019. The Stage V standards aim not only to reduce particulate matter in exhaust gases and their number. This is achieved by an additional particulate filter as well as internal design improvements to reduce fuel consumption.
