Chinese constructor carries out road improvement project in Rwanda

China Road and Bridge Cooperation (CRBC) has started, on May 2, the upgrade of roads in the urban areas of Kigali.

The project consists of 54.56km road upgrade in Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. China Road and Bridge Cooperation is undertaking the works that aim to enhance traffic capacity in the city.

Kigali’s City Engineer, Nkurunziza Alphonse explained: “This road upgrade will improve the conditions of Kigali, develop public transport, enhance the employment of the citizens and eventually boost the economy of the country.”

Nine roads are planned to be upgraded: Main round about (Muhima) -Gatsata, Rwandex-Sonatubes- Prince house (Remera), Kanogo- Rwandex, Kimihurura road networks, Nyamirambo- Rebero- Nyanza, Nyamirambo- Cyumbati- Gikondo, Kagugu- Batsinda- Nyacyonga, Downtown- Yamaha, and Kimisange-Cyumbati.

China Export-Import Bank has invested in the project by means of a preferential loan.

Kigali’s road project is worth $76M. Around thirty-two months are needed to complete works.
