Mott MacDonalds and Arcadis appointed for Sydney metro design

On May 3, the consortium Metron that compose the British and Dutch design, engineering and management consulting companies have been awarded the Underground Station Design and Technical Services (USDTS) contract for the major Australian metro project.

The Metron consortium comprises Mott MacDonalds, Arcadis and the Australian Robert Bird Group for management and engineering as well as the British Foster & Partners and the Australian Architectus for architectural proficiency.

It has been selected to carry out the design of six underground stations as part of the Sydney metro project’s second stage.

The Sydney Metro project is expected to create thirty-one stations and sixty-six kilometers of new metro rail. The second stage also foresees a 30km extension of metro rail under Sydney Harbour and through new CBD stations.

Stephen Giblett, built environment sector leader at Mott MacDonald Australia & New Zealand declared: "The Sydney Metro will truly transform this great city and the underground station design services role Metron will perform is critical to this."

Sydney Metro includes Sydney Metro Northwest $8.3bn project and Sydney Metro City & Southwest which has a cost range of $11.5bn to $12.5bn.
