A €145M consortium led by Alstom, comprising, Thales, the Latin American constructor, Sofratesa and the the two French established companies in the railway sector CIM and TSO; have accomplished the first three cars’ delivery for the Line 1 of the Panama Metro.

Trains feature wide access doors, a large capacity for passengers within the corridors to increase circulation between the cars, internal LED lights and a CCTV security system. They run at the maximum speed of 90km/h and include a communication and information system for the more than 275,000 passengers a day that use Line 1.
The Line 1, inaugurated in April 2014, is constituted of fourteen stations and runs through Panama City on 16km distance from North to south.
The following stage of the contract consists of the upgrade of the existing signaling and power supply infrastructure that, is needed to run the extended fleet with five cars per train.
Besides, Alstom is also engaged to provide an integrated system for Panama Metro’s Line 2 which is to comprise twenty-one Metropolis trainsets.
