The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is planned to span 300km from the Indian Ocean port of Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, in Tanzania.

The SGR is currently being built by the Turkish constructor Yapi Merkez Insaat Ve Sanayi and the Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil.
The $1.21bn project should be completed within 30 months in order to be operational in 2019.
