Irvine, California, contemplates creating an Olympic aquatics center

The town might become the United States’ headquarters of water polo thanks to these new facilities.

USA Water Polo, the leading water polo organization in the United States, needs a facility for everyday training of its domestic teams as well as a place to welcome national and international competitions.

The 1,300-acre Orange County Great Park in Irvine is the place that is being contemplated to build this worldwide venue. Talks are only beginning to establish the conditions of the partnership. For the time being, no information has been communicated as to the type of equipment the center would offer, the exact place in the park where it would be located or where the funds would come from.

USA Water Polo CEO Chris Ramsey is already imagining two Olympic swimming pools. But such a project requiring more than just will, it might never get off the ground. Indeed, the park is also coveted by other entities who have different purposes in mind for the place, like a botanical garden, museums or an action sports park.
