Montparnasse Tower : 7 architectural candidates for transformation

Further to an Union Council, the elected representatives, the joint tenants of the Montparnasse Tower, have withheld 7 architectural applications – 3 for French candidates and 4 for international - for scheduling the transformation of the tower in Paris.

The international competition, launched in June 2016, has seen 7 architectural firms selected for the further support for assistance. Consists of multidisciplinary teams, they should provide a project to give the Montparnasse Tower, a new strong image which is innovated and dynamical. The whole project is estimated at nearly 300 million euros which is financed 100% by the co-owners of the building.

The second stage of the competition provides for submitting tenders in March 2017. A third stage will then follow to designate two finalists. The winner will be known in July 2017 with the goal of starting work in 2019 and delivery in 2023 horizon.

The competition’s aim is to renew deeply the Montparnasse Tower, but this is just the beginning point of a larger project intending to restore the building complex with a new identity in a new urban center named "Tomorrow Montparnasse".
