In Carrara, Liebherr wants to remain engraved in marble

In the Carrara region of Italy, Gualtiero Corsi uses a Liebherr R 980 SME excavator for its marble extraction activities.

Disembarked in August 2015 in the material park of Gualtiero Corsi, the crawler excavator Liebherr R 980 SME delivers a power of 420 kW for a weight of about 100 t. It is equipped with a specific long equipment with boom of 8.6 m, a pendulum of 4.7 m and a special bucket of 1.50 m3 for the extraction of the marble.

Half the time, the shovel is used to tilt large portions of marble that can reach up to 1,000 t. The rest of the time, the crawler shovel moves blocks of about 100 tons by dragging them or raising blocks of about thirty tons. These rather rugged applications involve many protections on the chassis, rotating crown, boom cylinders, boom and balance.

The control of the machine has also been adjusted specifically to meet the needs of Gualtiero Corsi by promoting slow and extremely precise movements for precise work and maximum safety.
