Belgium: rail projects stalled until 2020
Between 2016 and 2020, Infrabel, the Belgian network operator, will invest only 4.4 billion euros instead of the customary 6.2 billion. No major project is expected during this period.

Given to the Belgian Federal Ministry of Mobility, Infrabel’s 2015-2020 business plan is drastic. The consequence of the heavy savings imposed by the Fed to the manager, says the Belgian daily newspaper L’Echo. The plan foresees 61% of the saving of 3.6 billion against 39% for the SNCB rail carrier and advocates the freezing of new projects to extend the network, making the future more uncertain for the RER project and the 4-way setting of certain lines. Between 2016 and 2020, Infrabel will therefore devote itself to the maintenance of the existing infrastructure.

PUBLICITÉ
A decision that allows it to invest 4.41 billion euros against the 6.2 billion announced in its investment plan 2013-2025. The remaining envelope will be dedicated to 2.5 billion euros for improvements in punctuality and safety on the network, including the removal of crossings, the concentration of signal booths and the network equipment of the European Emergency Stop ECTS, reports L’Echo.
