Volvo travels across Florida

Volvo Construction Equipment was mobilized by Ajax Paving Industries, specializing in asphalt mixing and road concrete, for a mega highway project in Florida.

The roads of North Port, Florida, are in a worrying state, paralyzing even the transports. The city has been involved in road maintenance for many years - most of which dates back to the 1960s - but deterioration is much faster than repairs. In 2012, North Port (Northern Port) was awarded a € 42m envelope to modernize its poor quality roads. The project started in 2014 and consists of 6 phases. Once completed in 2017, the project called The Road Bond Project will allow the renewal of 428 km of highway and the construction of several bridges. In November 2016, the progress of the site is 80%.

Retained by North Port, Ajax Paving Industries has the task of milling 108,662 t of asphalt under Phase 4. The company is using high-performance equipment supplied by Florida-based Flagler Construction Equipment’s Southwest dealer. It includes a Volvo 7170 finisher equipped with the Ultimat 200 allowing it to realize paving widths of 6 m! Over a period of 9 hours, the machine lays between 680 and 726 t of asphalt. Three new 7170 have recently integrated the company’s fleet.
