In Ukraine, the Chernobyl arch is in position

Vinci, Bouygues Construction and the Novarka group in charge of the works, have just finalized the pushing of the containment arch of reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (Ukraine). The operation was carried out by the Dutch company Mammoet.

Thirty years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the No. 4 reactor destroyed from the power plant was confined under the enormous 327 m displaced containment arch from its assembly site to its final location. It now covers the former temporary structure assembled precipitously after the 1986 accident.

The arch will soon be connected to the new technological building which will act as a control room for the next security operations inside the arch, hermetically closed and cut off from the environment. After complete testing of all equipment and commissioning, the transfer of the new containment arch to the administration of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will take place in November 2017.

Namely, the Chernobyl Arch (signed Novarka) is the largest mobile land structure ever built with a range of 257 m, a width of 162 m, a height of 108 m and a total weight of 36 000 t equipped. It represents an investment of 1.5 billion euros.
