World's tallest building: Santiago Calatrava's Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor.

Upon its completion in 2020, the tower at Dubai Creek Harbor (image borrowed from dubaiviral.com) will measure 100m slightly taller than the Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (828m) and will be the tallest tower in the world. It could however be eclipsed by the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia still under-construction and which is set to reach 1km.

Due to its height and design, the project demands a unique engineering approach and necessitates one of the most comprehensive geotechnical investigations undertaken in the region.
Shaped like a lily with the image of a minaret, this feat of engineering will be recognizable during the day from its slender neo-futuristic form and by night, by its dynamic illumination. It will also include dynamic balconies that rotate out from the facade and, on top, an observation deck with a 360° view of the city.

The tower’s design was chosen by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum following an international competition won by the Spanish/Swiss architect and painter Calatrava and will support the goals of the Dubai Plan 2021 of establishing the city as a global hub for business and leisure.
