Volvo leaves its mark in California
The family business Payco Specialties uses a pair of Volvo skid steers to achieve the road marking in Southern California.

Payco Specialties, a company specialized in road marking, is a key major player in the road sector with nearly 40 years of experience in the road marking.  Located in the suburb of  San Diego, Chula Vista (USA), it  focuses on the permanent and temporary strip application and removes, realizes the reflective markings, customizes some signals, and also performs the marking of parking lots  and airports.

With busy roads during the day, 95% of road works supervised by the California Department of Transportation are made at night to avoid traffic jams. In the San Diego area, for example, motorists spend 42 hours a year in traffic jams, reports the Urban Mobility Scorecard 2015. Delays in performing the work is severely punished by a fine of $ 10,000 which can then increase 1000 $ per minute.

To realize its projects quickly, Payco looked to Volvo CE Services branch in  nearby  Lakeside to take delivery of skid steers with a strongest hydraulic flow and perfect visibility from the cab. Compared to a conventional skid steer, the MC115C is extremely fast (14-14 mph in second) and reduces the time required to eliminate reflective strips on highway about 6.4 km.

Currently at work on I-5, the Volvo MC115C shall be responsible for eliminating the reflector of asphalt with his bucket of 1.5 m. To improve the performance, Payco preferred to equip it with a fitted plate welded to the front bucket in order to remove the reflectors more efficiently at high speeds. It has also two front lights and two rear lights for perfect visibility. The arm of the machine is designed based on high strength steel to withstand shock.

The MC115C is powered by an engine of  55 kW Tier 4F and offers a lift capacity of 1179 kg. It can be successively equipped with a drill to dig holes for roadside signs or forks to load 907 kg pallets of thermoplastic powder.
