VolkerWessels, a company specializing in urban and road construction, is producing and assembling prefabricated blocks of recycled plastic to create stretches of road. The initiative, called PlasticRoad, would allow recycling of the unimaginable quantities of plastics released from the oceans and build more environmentally friendly roads in a few weeks rather than months. Even more durable, roads will be easily maintained in case of damage and will cost much less to maintain in good condition. According to VolkerWessels, they could withstand temperatures between -40 and 80 ° C and last almost 50 years.
