Sorting center: Pizzorno doubles the capacity of Oum Azza

The only treatment plant which is certified ISO 14001 in Morocco, and the most important waste valorization center in North African, the recycling center Pizzorno Environnement Oum Azza puts into operation a second sorting line which doubling the processing capacity.

Operated by Teodem, Moroccan subsidiary of Pizzorno Environnement, the sorting center of Oum Azza treats annually more than 850,000 tons of waste on behalf of 13 municipalities of the region of Rabat. This facility enhances more than 200,000 tons / year of waste by combining the production of Solid Recovered Fuel, composting and sorting of recyclable materials (paper, metals, plastics). The installation of a new trommel will double the center’s sorting capacity.

Note that the 200 workers-sorters operating in this center are reunited into workers’ cooperative (Attawafouk) whose finance and remunerated itself by selling the materials recovered during sorting. Frédéric Devalle, CEO and President of Pizzorno Environnement Teodem, said: "This exceptional social organization is the result of an integration policy after the closure of the old landfill Akreuch: nearly a hundred informal sorters that remained through the sale of recyclable materials have been integrated in the center of waste valorization of Oum Azza. " Since 2008, the shares of re-socialization (school enrollment, training against illiteracy ...) and professionalization of these sorters have been developed through training on safety and technical skills.
