Kato's excavators powered by Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce is supplying MTU engines to the Japanese manufacturer Kato for its Excavator segment.

The engine, a 6-cylinder unit of the 1000 range and delivering 210 kW, will power the 30-ton hydraulic excavators of Kato’s HD range. Equipped with an SCR system, the MTU engine meets the Heisei 26 standards in force in Japan since 2016.

"Japan is a high tech country where our MTU engines already incorporate wheel loaders and cranes and today we are pleased to consolidate our fruitful partnership with Kato by also entering the Japanese excavator market," said Bernd Krüper, Vice president of Industrial Business at MTU.

The first Kato units with MTU engines were launched in April 2017.
