Moroccan world's largest solar station final phase ongoing

The fouth and final stage of the landmark Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex has started at the beginning of the month in Morocco.

Operated by the Saudi Arabian Acwa Power group in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), the Ouarzazate Solar Power Station (OSPS) fourth phase is being undertaken.

Located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region, central Morocco, the OSPS IV is to comprise $75M photovoltaic (PV) technology and generate 70MW energy.

The project is also part of Noor PV 1 program that includes a 30MW PV plant construction in Laayoune and a 20MW PV power station in Boudiour.

The German development bank, KfW has provided $64M to finance the $74.6M phase IV project.

After the fourth phase completion and operation in 2018, the $2.2bn Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex which is also composed of 160MW Noor 1 Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) station as well as Noor 2 & 3 still under development, is expected to be the World‘s largest solar plant. It is to generate 582MW and provide electricity to over a million households.
