Brisbane tasks Transurban with AU$60million Inner City Bypass upgrade

An in-principle agreement has been reached between the road developer and the city to make improvements on the Australian beltway.

Transurban Queensland, the Australian based road developer, is designated to manage the Inner City Bypass (ICB) upgrading project in the Australian’s city Brisbane.

Brisbane’s mayor Graham Quirk said: “Today I can announce council has reached an agreement in principle, which will allow Transurban to take over the responsibility for the ongoing maintenance and operations of the ICB, generating huge ratepayer savings of $54 million, with an additional $1 million to be saved annually for up to 20 years as a result of reduced maintenance costs.”

“Transurban Queensland will finance the design and construction of the upgrade as well as providing operations, maintenance and incident response services once the upgrade is completed.”

The main modifications to be undertaken concern the widening of road sections for the ICB westbound and eastbound in order to create four lanes instead of the existent three. A new ramp to the ICB from Bowen Bridge Road is to be built.

The company has named BMD Contractors to carry out the construction work with a completion set in mid-2018.
