$1.8 billion landmark project to transform South Bronx

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced his new infrastructure plan for the New-York’s area, including an important modification of the Sheridan express.

The project was disclosed yesterday at the Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education by the governor Andrew M. Cuomo. It implies a massive restructuration of the South Bronx roadways through the Bruckner-Sheridan junction. The first step concerns the replacement of the actual Sheridan Express with a three-lined boulevard where cars would rub shoulders with cycles and pedestrians.

The Governor said: "The project will create an interconnected South Bronx with access to the Waterfront, recreation, and less traffic on local streets while simultaneously better supporting those who use the Hunts Point Market – a vital economic engine for the borough."
The Sheridan boulevard work will start next year and is planned to be completed in spring 2019. 4250 new jobs should be created.

The South Bronx project, as thought up, includes also the building of a pedestrian bridge over the Bronx River, a flyover ramp after the Sheridan Boulevard modification realized and an eastbound exit creation to Edgewater Road. The global cost is fixed at $1.8 billion.
