Among the many wearables still in experiment, the following five seem to have found their place in construction job sites:
PUBLICITÉ
The DAQRI Smart Helmet displays work instructions right on the visor. It has a navigation camera with HD video recording, photography, and 3D mapping to help workers connect their current task to the overall job.
XOEye Smart Glasses
The XOEye smart glasses are equipped with a camera wired to the Internet which allows workers to communicate with experts on how to accomplish a task. The glasses can also be used to scan QR codes.
Myo Wristband
Myo wristband reads users’ arms gestures to control a large number of devices. It comes in handy when workers can’t remove their gloves or drop tools to operate on a different device.
Redpoint & Skanska Safety Vest
These safety vests have integrated GPS to track workers’ specific geo-location. Workers with Redpoint badges are instantly alerted when entering danger zones and actuators can be triggered to slow down or deactivate heavy equipment.
Bionic Exoskeleton Suits
Analog Bionic suits allow workers to lift heavy loads or use heavy tools for a long period without the risk of injuries.
Other wearables that are also in use are ZIPPKOOL (cooling jackets) and Caterpillar’s CAT Detect Personnel (RFID technology to track ground worker).
