Grove Crane in action in Dortmund

At the end of October, the German company Autokrane Schares used a Grove GMK5250L all-terrain crane to build a new building in the city center of Dortmund in Germany.

Autokrane Schares has retained the 5-axle crane and 250 t for its maneuverability given the restricted access of the site in the heart of downtown Dortmund. Its mission was the lifting of asymmetric prefabricated elements weighing 18 t. In order to create sufficient space for smooth traffic on the site, the 14 m long pieces were lifted horizontally, directly from the trucks, and then lowered vertically to their final position.

Thanks to its 3 m wide frame, the GMK5250L crossed the street with unhindered access to the construction site, a width of only 4 m. The VIAB transmission and its turbo separator clutch provide high precision with vehicle excessive wear during maneuvering and braking. It was equipped with a boom of 70 m capable of lifting light loads of 12 t on a radius of 35 m, and heavier loads (18 t) on a radius of 25 m.
