Sweden: the Malmö Live crowned by the World Architecture Festival 2016

On 16 November, the Malmö Live complex in southern Sweden, designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, was awarded the World Architecture Festival 2016 in the category of mixed-use buildings.

Since its opening in the spring of 2015, Malmö Live has become a popular cultural meeting place and landmark in the city of Malmö. Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, in a consortium with Skanska Sweden, Nordic Choice Hotels, Akustikon and SLA, won the contract to build the project in 2010, which consisted of a 54,000 m² complex comprising a hotel, a congress center and a hall the concert.

With this award, the jury of the World Architecture Festival 2016 held a reward "a public building in the best sense of the word: open to all This is a key element of the city and an important catalyst for urban regeneration.". For the record, Malmö Live consists of twisted cubic areas of different sizes to match the directions and heights of the building. The façades are designed to make the complex look like an architectural sculpture. The ground floor is fully accessible to the public.
