An administrative center to preserve the heritage of Diriyah

Zaha Hadid Architects won the contract to build the Administrative Center of the urban heritage of Diriyah, in Saudi Arabia, which meant to help to preserve the historic site of the city listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

The task of the headquarter of 8 780 sq meters will be to pursue the restoration programs of 120 km in the Wadi Hanifa valley, which also includes the rehabilitation of its natural environment. The urban heritage administration center will shelter a permanent exhibition gallery, library, conference rooms, educational facilities, research space and documentation on several archaeological sites of Diriyah.

The building’s design is hinged around an atrium with water at its base and 4 green oasis around. Its facade is wrapped in a perforated outer skin that protects the location from the sun attacks while maintaining a visual connection with the natural environment.
