Keolis wins the Manchester tramway network

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) entrusted KeolisAmey, a joint venture between Keolis (60%) and the British company Amey (40%), with the operation and maintenance of Greater Manchester’s tram network.

Inaugurated in 1992, Metrolink is now the largest tramway network in the United Kingdom. It has seven lines, totaling 96 km of track and serves 93 stations divided between Greater Manchester’s urban centers, its airport and its suburbs.

As part of this new contract, KeolisAmey will operate a fleet of 120 trams on which free WiFi will be installed. The joint venture will also manage the proposed extension of the Trafford Park line, which is expected to be completed by 2020-2021.

The contract takes effect as of next July serving some 37 million annual travelers.
