China is beating records in the field of green building
China is catching up with respect to environmental protection.

The country is known as the number one polluter in the world: an unenviable record. Fortunately, it is making tremendous progress in the area of environment. To such an extent that Chinese buildings are now overshadowing American ones. Indeed, China is ranking as the first green building market. It possesses more than 1 billion square feet of certified green, sustainable building surface. A result it achieved twice as fast (10 years) as the United States (20 years), yet considered as an example in this regard.

During COP21, China had set itself the ambitious objective of obtaining 50% commercial green building certification by 2020. The country might this way account for half of world’s green building floor space by this date.

The construction of future buildings will have to integrate environmental aspect as they consume 40% of the world’s energy. Especially as Chinese cities’ population is growing more and more.

Dr. Qiu Baoxing, president of the Chinese society for Urban Studies, is a forerunner in green buildings. He advocates for the creation of more vertical gardens in the city towers. The idea is to introduce vegetation in order to absorb CO2 emissions and release oxygen.
