Mipim Awards 2017 reward the Museu do Amanhã

The Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow), located in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), won the “Best Ecological Project” prize at the Mipim Awards 2017.

The Mipim Awards is a world-class real estate competition, which aims at highlighting existing or yet to be built top-notch projects worldwide. Last edition took place from the 14th to the 17th of March in Cannes.

This year, it is an unconventional science museum that has been honored. The Museu do Amanhã has indeed been devised around a distinctive concept: it invites the public to think about the impact of their actions on the planet. “How will we live in 2050 when we are 9 billion inhabitants” or “the future of mankind” feature among the thematics addressed.

This building unveiled in 2016, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, is a reference ecologically speaking. Its air conditioning system uses water from Rio de Janeiro’s bay. In addition, more than 5,000 photovoltaic panels have been fitted on the roof in order to capture solar energy. No doubt these aspects weighted in the jury’s final choice.
