Wastewater: an untapped resource

At the next edition of Wasser Berlin International, Blue Planet Berlin Water Dialogues will focus on the effectiveness of wastewater resources. Inspired by the World Water Day, the event will be held under the theme "Waste water: the untapped resource."

The event, to be held March 30th next to the Experts’ Forum, is organized by the German Water Partnership and is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). Making the economy sustainable is one of the major challenges of the 21st century. The idea of a shift in the direction of waste management towards the exploitation of a potential resource has long reached the water industry. Industrial and domestic wastewater offer considerable potential, particularly as a source of energy and nutrients.

In his keynote speech, Agunther Adler, Secretary of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, will explain the latest developments and challenges in this area and study the conditions necessary for the successful use of wastewater. Stefan Uhlenbrook, Coordinator of UNESCO’s World Water Assessment Program, will then present the World Report on Water Resources Development 2017. Representatives of companies and research institutes will showcase their experiences and the latest technological advances on this topic.
