Suez and Total recycle edible oils into biofuel

Suez and Total have signed a 10-year partnership in which Suez undertakes to deliver 20,000 tons of used edible oils to Total to transform it into a biofuel.

It is the bio-refinery Total de La Mède, near Marseille, that will carry out this recycling. This first bio-refinery in France, one of the largest in Europe, will produce biodiesel by refining used edible oils, residual oils and vegetable oils. This high quality biodiesel (HVO) will blend perfectly with diesel, with no impact on fuel quality or engines, and no incorporation limitations.

At present, the collection of used edible oils in France represents 45,000 tons / year, for a deposit estimated at more than 100,000 t / year. Through this partnership, Suez and Total want to increase the collection of oils in France by more than 20% and improve their valorisation. To this end, Suez will deploy a collection system adapted to all types of producers, from private individuals to the biggest players in the food industry.
