Swedish manufacturer Trelleborg has just received the Sima Innovation Awards gold medal for its Variable Inflation Pressure - VIP system, which will be presented at the Sima 2017 in Paris Nord Villepinte from 26 February to 2 March 2017.

Developed in partnership with tractor manufacturer Agco Fendt, the VIP system is a complete intelligent, self-contained wheel capable of automatically adjusting the tire pressure of a combine harvester according to the actual load, adapting the footprint to be optimal and reduce soil compaction. A result achieved by a set of sensors (measurement of the load, pressure, temperature), to an electronic device controlling a compressor and a valve. "The system is integrated directly into the rim of the tire. By identifying and adopting the best inflation without manual intervention, farmers can reduce soil compaction by more than 10%, and increase yield of 5%, "explains Piero Mancinelli, R & D Director of Trelleborg tires Agricultural and forestry sectors. "We continue to test the VIP system in the field for different types of crops, and the most demanding applications, before its official launch at the Sima 2017."
