Chinalco China Copper invests $1.3bn for Peruvian mine development

The Chinese Company has expressed the will to expand production on Toromocho Copper mine located in Junin Region, in the center of the Latin American country.

Last November, a preliminary agreement had been reached with the Peruvian government during the Chinese president Xi Jinping’s visit in Peru.

Chinalco China Copper has confirmed on April 5 at the World Copper Conference of CRU, held in Chile, its project to increase even more the mine productivity by means of $1.3bn investment to develop the site.

Toromocho Copper mine operates since 2013. A geological exploration has estimated it contains a reserve of 1526 million tons of ore with 0.48% average grade of copper. Around 31,407 tonnes of copper were produced in 2016.
