Scania equips new trucks with Apple’s CarPlay

The Swedish bus and truck manufacturer has unveiled on April 5 its plan to introduce Apple’s technology into the new truck generation’s infotainment system.

The Swedish-based Scania, part of Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH is willing to introduce Apple’s CarPlay system into heavy trucks by June 2017.

Björn Fahlström, Vice President, Product Management, Scania Trucks said: “Apple CarPlay support is being introduced in June 2017, and earlier devices can be updated, provided that they have voice recognition. By introducing this functionality, we will offer even more driver comfort and increased safety. For truck drivers, who spend a lot of time behind the wheel, everything that makes life on the road easier, simpler and safer is very much appreciated.”

Apple’s CarPlay is to be introduced into the new truck generation’s infotainment system. It would allow drivers to use all iPhone features (using Voice command via Siri, calling someone, navigating or listening to music) while staying focus on the journey and not look away from the road.

Only customers with a Scania Infotainment System, a 7” touch screen and the Voice Control option would be able to use Apple CarPlay functionality.
