Texas Department of Transportation to undertake $855M Grand Parway

The US government agency has been awarded on March 30 to design and build State Highway 99 ring road two new segments.

The infrastructure project consists of the development and the creation of lanes on the State Highway 99 also called Grand Parway.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is undertaking around 44 miles of Grand Parkway segments development. This includes the construction of a new tolled two-lane for segments H and I-1 between US 59 and I-10. Moreover, four supplementary toll lanes would be built on segment I-2, from FM 1405 to SH 146, for approximatively six miles.
The existing four-lane facility, from I-10 East to FM1405, is to be upgraded.

TxDOT Houston District Engineer, Quincy Allen said: “Development of the Grand Parkway is an important priority for the Houston area and the state of Texas. It is an opportunity to offer alternate routes for motorists who travel into and around the greater Houston area.”

Tucker Ferguson, TxDOT Beaumont District Engineer added: “With Chambers and Liberty counties steadily growing, this will be a great asset to not only the communities but to local industry.”

The construction work is to start in 2018 for a completion in 2022. Grand Parway is to be the longest ring road in the US at 180 miles.
