BIM a priority for European engineering companies

Studies for BIM in the European construction sector, show that more than 1 professional out of 3 is now using the BIM in their work. This estimate is of note in the engineering sector where 50% of prime contractors use BIM and more than 58% of them are convinced of its usefulness.

Fifty-percent of the engineering companies are thus more likely to use BIM in their activity against 35% for the whole sector. By contrast, in 2016, only 37% of engineering companies were using it.

The study also shows some barriers to the use of BIM as 47% of professionals lack internal skills. Software costs and lack of standardization also contribute to the concerns.

European engineering firms and prime contractors are asking authorities to support the training of the BIM for 53% of them, to take action to adopt a common standard (49%) and to grant financial aid (46%).
