“Queen Mary Island” to become THE entertainment place

Although Queen Mary officially retired from service in 1967, it might have a second life as the figurehead of “Queen Mary Island”.

Plans of the future aspect of “Queen Mary Island” have been announced last week by architect Gensler and Los Angeles developer Urban Commons.

Even if the vessel was not sailing any more, it still incurs maintenance costs. In particular, the legend suffers from damage due to corrosion and needs to be repaired. Generating revenue was therefore a priority for Urban Commons, who engaged in a contract to lease the boat.

To keep head above water, the company and architect Gensler imagined an entertainment complex at Long Beach, in California, which is set to be THE new seaside destination. Everything has been planned to accommodate visitors: a hotel with a capacity of 200 rooms, a boardwalk, a marina and a public amphitheater. Enjoyment will be the watchword of this $250M project, with 14,000 square meters dedicated to attractions, like an ice climbing wall and an indoor sky-diving simulator.
