Digital construction is revolutionizing the building sector

After 50 years of inertia, the construction industry is catching up by adopting new technologies.

So far, trade professionals have used the good old method of 2D drawings in paper format, which is error-prone. They have been working in silos and had to wait for the ground to be dug to find out potential problems, leading to delays and unplanned costs.

But that was before the emergence of digital construction. Pix4D, a specialist in the field present at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas in early March, offers for instance solutions which allow the documentation and measurement of sites from an aerial perspective, the management of earthworks from the air, or even the realization of virtual inspections. Now, documentation can also be shared more easily using tablets.

Furthermore, the new trend is to use Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), a concept designed to do the job digitally and solve the problems on the computer in order to avoid unpleasant surprises once in the field. Although the job is done twice, this method saves a lot of time for the different players. It also contributes to save money. In short, it brings real value.
