Caterpillar Gosselies site alledgedly sold for a symbolic €1

According to L’Echo and some Belgian sites, Caterpillar has ceded its Gosselies site for the symbolic sum of €1 to the Walloon region.

The announcement is presumed to have been made at a press conference held by Paul Magnette, President of the Walloon Region. "It took seven months of intense negotiations between Caterpillar and Wallonia to reach this agreement... and it is better to have a good deal than a bad trial." commented Paul Magnette.

As a reminder, the site of Gosselies (100 hectares) was the main European production site of Caterpillar, dedicated to wheel loaders and large crawler crawler excavators. Its closure is part of the program of drastic measures of cost reduction adopted by the manufacturer at the world level.
