Caterpillar partners with FIT AG for Heavy Equipment 3-D Printing

Since the unveiling of the Project AME at ConExpo last March of a 3-D printing excavator, the race is now on for manufacturers of heavy equipment in the field of additive manufacturing technology.

Caterpillar has signed a three-year deal agreement with FIT AG -- a German company with offices in Boston that had previously sold its Netfabb 3-D printing software to Autodesk -- to produce alimunium and titanium parts for heavy machines.

This agreement is not Caterpillar’s first foray into the domain of 3-D printing. Last year, the manufacturer had launched a 3-D printing additive manufacturing accelerator lab at the Caterpillar Global Research & Development Center in Mossville, IL.
