French Systra to design US$4,7bn first metro in Bogota

The international French based engineering group, Systra, is in charge of designing the first subway infrastructure for Columbia’s capital city.

The project is studied since the 1980s and is now seriously taken up as Systra has been appointed to design the US$4,7 billion metro line that is to come into use by 2023.

The line is planned to be built on a 25km U-shaped viaduct and serve 15 stations from the southwest to the city center.

Bogota has already a number of bus rapid transit lanes. However, its important demography leads the national government to equip the capital city with the new infrastructure. An estimation forecasts around 650,000 the number of passengers willing to use the public transportation infrastructure per day.

The seismic risk in the region is to take into account for the building of the metro line that may start in May 2018.
