Le Corbusier disfigured

The Centrosoyouz, building listed historical monument based in Moscow, might be overshadowed by a 58 meters-high tower.

The two residential buildings located next to the Centrosoyouz might be destroyed in favour of a business center of 59.000 square meters. Applications for building permits have not been signed yet, but experts have judged these structures outdated in view of the evolutions of these last 25 years. The land of these two properties belong to the Russian Ministry for Defense.

Antoine Picon, President of Le Corbusier Foundation, is concerned by the consequences of such a project on the immediate surroundings of the site. The two buildings destined to destruction are the same height as the Centrosoyouz, contrary to the new tower, which would be twice as high. In addition, the neo-classical style of the Modernism symbol, alternating between curves and angles, fits perfectly in the city center of the capital, which might not be the case of the future concept.

Advocates for the work of the architect see further ahead and believe this project might jeopardize the chances to see the building included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
