BIG built a very "navy" building in Philadelphia

The Investment Management Firm, Penn Capital Company, had just moved to the 1200 Intrepid Avenue where was located the new architectural firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group in Philadelphia (USA). The building built by Liberty Property Trust & Synterra Partners, evokes a military ship.

This building of 8 547 sq meters and consisting of 4 floors, is located in the Navy Yard Corporate Center, within the Philadelphia Navy Yard. It reflects the Central Green Park and the Navy Yard Master plan characteristics wearing the curves of the warship parked a few blocks away. Penn Capital covers 2 415 sq meters on the top floor while the remaining space is available for rent….

The front curve of 1200 Intrepid was made of the stacking prefabricated panels in High Concrete quality of different sizes, creating thus a wicker basket pattern. To the upper part, the panels also inclined outwards, creating in this way the canopy. The three others buildings front stood straight highlighting the main front of the building which representing its nature characteristic.

In honor of the maritime history of the Navy Yard, the lobby was decorated with a periscope for tenants and visitors to be able to admire the ships moored nearby.
